Area Cintas receives OSHA’s highest safety designation

December 25, 2018

MERCEDES — Guillermo Montoya calls it a true team effort when it comes to safety at Cintas in Mercedes.

And the local Cinta’s team has been recognized for its safety practice.

Cintas Corporation announced that its Mercedes location received the Voluntary Protection Program Star certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“ Earning VPP certification took a true team effort and I’m proud to say that safety is now in the DNA of every one of our employee-partners,” said Guillermo Montoya, General Manager at Cintas Mercedes.

VPP Star is OSHA’s highest recognition for the practice of and commitment to exemplary occupational safety and health, earned by businesses who meet rigorous safety requirements.

The Mercedes site is nestled in the corner of an industrial location for business outside of town along the highway.

From a distance, the Cintas fleet can be seen parked and orderly.

At a closer glance inside the facility area there are safety reminders for its drivers and employees.

“ Creating a safety culture takes time, but it’s an investment well worth making because of the positive impact it can have on the health of our employee-partners,” Montoya said.

Cintas is the number one participant in the nation for companies with VPP sites, with approximately 250 facilities throughout the world actively pursuing VPP recognition by OSHA or the equivalent under a similar certifying body.

Since 2011, 95 Cintas locations have been recognized under the VPP program. Cintas also participates in similar programs in Canada, Mexico and Honduras.

The announcement took place during a special ceremony in November at the Cintas operation located at 700 Dawson Road in Mercedes.

Special guests included Gus Ruiz, Cameron County Commissioner; Eddie Lucio Jr, Texas State Senator; Craig Weber, OSHA VPP Coordinator; along with several other Cintas employee-partners.
