Richard “Rick” D. Blanchette, 62, of Crescent City, and formerly of Kankakee, passed away Friday (May 17, 2019) at his home.
He was born July 19,1956, in Kankakee, the son of Foy Baker (Bradley) and Richard “Dick” J. Blanchette.
Rick was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle soul with a heart of gold who touched many lives and was loved and will be missed by many.
He loved nature and the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. Rick was an animal lover and leaves behind two dogs, Max, and Baby Chewy. He also really enjoyed playing pool. He was a die-hard Chicago White Sox fan as well as a Chicago Bears fan. He coached Little League baseball for the Kankakee Jaycees for many years and was well liked and respected by both players and other coaches alike.
He was a retired state of Illinois employee after having worked at Shapiro Developmental Center for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Sandra S. Blanchette (Alvey), of Crescent City; his mother, Foy Baker (Bradley), of Kankakee; his brother, Mike (Lisa) Blanchette, of Crescent City; his stepbrother, Darren Baker; and two sons, Richard “Rich” (Kori) Blanchette, of Bradley, and Joseph T. Blanchette, of Anderson, Ind. He is also survived by his only daughter, Lisa M. (Chris) Dumas, of Bradley. Also, he was a proud and loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Tamara “Tammy” Blanchette; his father, Richard “Dick” J. Blanchette; his stepfather, Don Baker; and his youngest son, Brian A. Blanchette.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. A private family burial is being scheduled for a future date.
