NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a woman was sexually assaulted by a man who approached her in a laundry room in Manhattan's East Village, and officers are looking for him.

The New York Police Department says the suspect started trying to talk with the 46-year-old woman around 11:15 a.m. Saturday and persuaded her to follow him out of the laundry room. Police say the 43-year-old man has an address in the building, on East 13th Street near Avenue B.

Officers were told he grabbed her by the arm and neck, and she resisted but fell to the ground. Then he allegedly covered her mouth, tried to remove her clothes and sexually attacked her as she struggled.

He fled when she managed to scream. She was treated at a hospital and released.
