University of Wyoming Art Museum director retires

December 24, 2017

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The director of the University of Wyoming Art Museum has retired after 26 years at the institution.

The Laramie Boomerang reports that Susan Moldenhauer helped guide the museum as it grew from a small exhibition space in a former dance studio to a 50,000 square foot (4,645 square meters) facility.

During her tenure, Moldenhauer focused on raising money for the museum’s endowment so it could buy works of art in addition to accepting donated works.

She was one of four recipients of this year’s Governor’s Arts Awards. In May, an anonymous donor made a $2.3 million gift in her name to the museum, its largest ever, to support contemporary art.

Moldenhauer left her position in November. She says she will now focus on her own photography but remain involved in public art.
