SHANGHAI, China (AP) _ A bomb exploded aboard a minibus in southwestern China, killing six people and wounding 23, a police official said today.
The blast Wednesday morning in Fengjie County on the outskirts of Chongqing, a major industrial city, would be at least the 10th bombing this year in China.
The violence has heightened official fears of unrest by workers and farmers angry at layoffs, stagnating incomes and corruption.
``A criminal ignited a bomb on the bus,″ and was among those killed, said a police official contacted by telephone in Fengjie.
Police are investigating the motive, said the official, who did not give his name or any other details.
Bombings are becoming increasingly common in China, where private ownership of firearms is illegal but explosives used for mining or construction are readily available.
