Best farms in Guyan District awarded
WAYNE — Farmers in southern West Virginia were recently recognized for conservation efforts and keeping up their farms as part of the Agriculture Enhancement Program.
Local winners included Jim and Tonya Fry from Wayne County, Quintin Harless from Boone County, Wesley Morrison from Cabell County, Wayne Grass from Lincoln County, Mike and Libby Adkins from Mingo County.
Qualifications for winners included conservation practices such as lime usage, frost seeding critical area planting, urban agriculture, micro irrigation system, heavy use area protection and invasive species management.
To be involved in all programs, owners must provide a copy of the lease, current soil test, map of the property with field boundaries and the farm must be apart of the boundaries Guyan Conservation District.
