Fashion Designer Hospitalized

March 19, 1990

PARIS (AP) _ Yves Saint Laurent, one of the world’s best-known couturiers, has been hospitalized to recuperate from exhaustion, his fashion house said today.

Saint Laurent, 53, will not attend the presentation of his ready-to-wear spring collection on Wednesday, and his doctor advised him to abandon his business activities for several weeks to rest, a statement said.

The hospitalization was ordered Saturday by Dr. Michael Prendeville after Saint Laurent underwent a thorough medical examination that disclosed no signs of any infectious diseases, the statement said.

The Saint Laurent empire, estimated at some $2 billion, in 1988 had a turnover of about $450 million in couture, ready-to-wear clothing for women and men, perfume and accessories through licenses.
