Morris To Play for Calgary

December 12, 2000

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Derek Morris, fresh from an eight-day conditioning stint in the minors, is expected to be in a Calgary uniform for the first time this season Wednesday when the Flames visit Montreal.

The 22-year-old star defenseman practiced for the first time Monday with the parent club since signing a three-year, $5 million contract last month.

With Morris having missed training camp, the exhibition season, plus the first 10 weeks of the regular season while his new contract was negotiated, the Flames want to work the 5-foot-11, 210-pound defenseman gradually toward the 25 minutes per game he was logging last winter.
