Police investigating shooting incident at Paces Run Apartments
Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to a shooting Tuesday in the Paces Run Apartment Complex on Brandt Court.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Brandt Court around 7:52 p.m. and met with a 44-year-old man who had an apparent gunshot wound to his left leg, according to the report.
Investigators questioned the victim about what happened, but he claimed he “did not see anything or know anything about what happened,” the report states.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an Augusta hospital.
Police reported questioning people standing outside at the apartment complex, but everyone they spoke with claimed they were not outside when the incident took place and only came outside after officers arrived.
Paces Run Apartments is a small complex in the City of Aiken, which has had high a volume of reported crime, including several shooting incidents.
On May 26, 2017, Kaliel Bey, 19, was fatally shot; two men were later charged in connection to his murder.
On Sept. 30, 2017, officers responded to another shooting on Brandt Court, where they found 35-year-old Makenzie Loron Williamson unconscious and suffering from two gunshot wounds. Williamson was transported by EMS to an Augusta hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Five individuals have been charged in connection with Williamson’s murder.
However, there is hope for the area as the Aiken Department of Public Safety moves to new headquarters, located at 843 Beaufort St., which is across the street.
This new building, called the J. Carrol Busbee Headquarters, is on track to be up and running in 2019, giving that area a much needed police presence.
