Knights nip Parkersburg 3-2

PARKERSBURG — Emilie Charles scored two goals and assisted on another to help Cabell Midland (8-8-1) defeat Parkersburg 3-2 Thursday in girls high school soccer.

The Big Reds took a 1-0 lead 20 seconds into the contest, but Charles tied it on a goal off an assist by Elisabeth Dick. Charles gave the Knights the lead on a goal off a pass by Harper True. After Parkers-burg tied it, Charles assisted Gabby Hammers on the game-winning goal.

Cabell Midland returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday at Capital.

GALLIA ACADEMY 7, SOUTH POINT

1: The Blue Angels (11-2) clinched the Ohio Valley Conference championship with a triumph over the Pointers (3-5-1).

Brooke Johnson gave Gallia Academy a 1-0 lead, but Emilee Whitt tied it. From there, it was all Blue Angels, as Megan Bailey, Sarah Watts, Preslee Reed, Kyrsten Sanders, Gretchen McConnell and Bailey Burnette scored.

IRONTON ST. JOE 4, CHESAPEAKE

1: Chloe Sheridan and Emma Whaley scored two goals each as the Flyers defeated the Panthers in a rain-shortened game in Ironton. Sherydan Collins scored for the Panthers.

ASHLAND 9, WEST CARTER 1:

Abby Huff scored four goals and Kaitlin McLain two as the Kittens clobbered the Comets. Morgan Bradley scored a goal and issued two assists. Mimi Moore and Emma Dowdy also scored for Ashland (9-6-3). Regan Adkins scored for West Carter (7-10-1).

Boys

FAIRLAND 6, PORTSMOUTH 0:

Mason Fannin scored two goals and assisted on one Thursday to help the Dragons shut out the Trojans.

Jacob Polcyn, Wyatt Morris, Jesse Lewis and Gabe Sheppard also scored. Lewis issued two assists. Polcyn and Morris each had one assist.

GALLIA ACADEMY 1, SOUTH POINT

1: Bobby Wilt scored in the second half to allow the Blue Devils to tie the Pointers.

IRONTON ST. JOE 8, OVC

1: Zach Roach and Isaac Whaley scored twice each as the Flyers defeated Ohio Valley Christian in a lightning-shortened game in Gallipolis, Ohio. Ryan Payne, J.C. Damron, Jared Johnson and Bryce Balestra also scored for Ironton St. Joe (8-2-1). Justin Beaver scored for the Defenders.

WINFIELD 1, POCA 0:

Evan McCray scored off an assist from Dylan Spence to lift the Generals (15-0-1) to a victory over the Dots. Nathan Lanham was credited with the shutout in goal.
