Area Walmart Closes On Black Friday

TAYLOR — An alarm blaring at the Walmart in Taylor caused the store to empty out and then close this afternoon, Black Friday, one of the busiest retail days of the year. The alarm started sounding shortly at 3:15 p.m., according to the Lackwanna County 911 Center. Fire Chief Wes Jones said that a malfunction of the fire service water lines outside the store triggered the alarm. There was no fire. The store closed, according to the local Walmart’s Facebook page. They said they would post a reopening time once it becomes available. The large crowd inside the store filed out during the alarm as an employee said to them, “everyone must be evacuated due to circumstances beyond our control.” Ted Baird, a Times-Tribune employee, happened to be inside the Walmart as the events transpired. People milled about in the cold parking lot for roughly 30 minutes. — JOSEPH KOHUT
