MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Pat McCabe scored 18 points and Otto McDuffie added a career-high 14 rebounds Monday night as Wisconsin-Milwaukee beat Northern Illinois 64-59.

Milwaukee snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 6-13 overall and 3-6 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Northern Illinois (10-10, 4-6) was led by T.J. Lux with 23 points.

Milwaukee had only eight players in uniform, one a walk-on added right before the game, after the permanent suspension earlier in the day of three members of the squad.

Northern Illinois scored six straight points to pull to within a point at 57-56 on a basket by Chris Coleman with about two minutes left. But Cyrus Caldwell and McDuffie both hit one-of-two free throws and Dan Johnson a pair with 20 seconds left for a 61-56 lead.

Ronald Minter hit a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left to make it 63-59.

Milwaukee overcame a 17-point first-half performance by Lux to lead 33-30 at intermission.

Lux made one of two free throws with 1:30 left to put the Huskies up 30-29 but Pat McCabe hit two straight baskets for a three-point Panther halftime advantage. Lux sank 8 of 10 shots and made five straight layups early in the first period to give Northern Illinois a 15-9 lead.
