LONDON (AP) _ A British girl whose marriage at age 13 to a Turkish teen-ager caused an uproar in both countries gave birth Tuesday to a 7-pound baby boy. Social workers said the 14-year-old mother was doing well.

``She and her baby are both in good health and she was able to speak to her baby's father,'' Essex Social Services said.

Sarah Cook, then 12, and Musanin Komeagae, then a 17-year-old waiter, met in 1995 while Sarah and her parents were on vacation in a southern Turkish resort.

They exchanged letters when the family returned home, and Sarah persuaded her mother to let her return. In October, she flew to Turkey to get married.

The couple was married in a religious ceremony in January with the consent of Sarah's parents. The bride was 13; the groom was 18.

But Turkey declared the wedding invalid; girls must be 15 to marry.

Sarah returned to Britain and Musanin was jailed on charges of having sex with a minor. His trial began in February; the next session is on Thursday.

There are no plans for the father to visit his baby boy, social workers said.
