PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island officials are asking for proposals to redevelop and operate a stadium when the Pawtucket Red Sox leave.
The Providence Journal reports that the Rhode Island Commerce Corp. requested proposals Tuesday. It’s looking for individuals and organizations who want to use McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket and potentially secure a professional sports team for the 77-year-old ballpark.
The Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate plans to leave Pawtucket and play its first season in Worcester, Massachusetts in 2021. The city is planning for a new stadium for the team.
The team’s ownership decided to relocate after failing to reach a deal for a new stadium with Rhode Island officials.
In her budget proposal, the governor included $600,000 for repairs at McCoy Stadium and $200,000 for a new study on potential uses.
