December 1, 2001

MONTREAL (AP) _ The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Karl Dykhuis to a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2004-05 season.

``Karl possesses very good offensive skills, and brings experience and speed to our defensive squad,″ Canadiens GM Andre Savard said Saturday.

The 29-year-old Dykhuis is in his ninth NHL season and third with the Canadiens. He was acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 20, 1999 for future considerations.

He has played in all 24 games for the Canadiens, scoring one goal and adding an assist. He was leading the team with a plus-7 rating going into Saturday night’s game against the New York Rangers.

Last season, Dykhuis had a career-high eight goals and led the Canadiens with a plus-9 rating. He was one of only four regulars on last season’s team to finish with a plus rating.
