Schuyler TEAMS unit performing well
A group of young people in Schuyler are feeling good after recently taking second in a highly competitive event.
Schuyler Central High School’s TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) took second out of eight units earlier this month in the regional competition at Wayne State College.
TEAMS is an annual STEM competition challenging students to work collaboratively and apply their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real everyday engineering challenges, according to the Technology Student Association.
“It always feels good when students perform well,” Schuyler head coach John Sayer said. “(The) competition consists of a multiple choice test (and) essay to complete prior to competition, and a group building project. The whole thing takes about three hours.”
The Schuyler TEAMS squad will now prepare for nationals, which are set for June 28-July 2 at National Harbor near Washington D.C.
“It is very hard to make it to nationals as you have to score high in both the essay and written test,” Sayer said.
