Ex-War Correspondents Dislike News
ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Two former network broadcasters who brought the Gulf War into the nation’s living rooms seven years ago say they don’t like what they see in today’s newscasts.
Former war correspondents Arthur Kent of NBC and Charles Jaco of CNN became household names while dodging SCUD missiles in Saudi Arabia in 1991. They were reunited Monday when Kent appeared on Jaco’s talk show ``NewsMakers″ on AM radio station KMOX.
``Last time, this was CNN’s and television’s war,″ Jaco said prior to the program. ``The next time around ... the sources of information won’t be a Charles Jaco or an Arthur Kent but a (Internet gossip columnist) Matt Drudge or a Rush Limbaugh. That’s truly terrifying.″
Kent said he is concerned about a media world infatuated with Monica Lewinsky and O.J. Simpson. He is to anchor a weekday morning international news program, ``World Watch,″ on PBS beginning this summer.
