BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) _ Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (BKD) on Monday reported a loss of $165.5 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Brentwood, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of 88 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 26 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 19 cents per share.

The senior housing company posted revenue of $1.16 billion in the period.

Brookdale shares have decreased 12 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $8.49, a fall of 35 percent in the last 12 months.
