LeRoy Henry

August 10, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of LeRoy Claude Henry announces his passing at the age of 74 years. He passed peacefully on Aug. 2, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, in the company of his daughters.

LeRoy Henry was born on March 27, 1944, in Royal and lived his childhood on a farm right outside of town. LeRoy graduated from Royal High School in 1963. Growing up, LeRoy worked on multiple farms in the area and could be found at Colson’s Garage with his friends, pumping gas and learning to fix cars. LeRoy’s experience fixing cars helped him later in life, when he raced cars with his brother-in-law. LeRoy also enjoyed spending time with friends and family singing and playing his guitar.

1944-2018

LeRoy served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic from 1968 to 1971, and he used those skills to open his own shop, Offutt Motors in Bellevue. Throughout LeRoy’s life, he also drove over-the-road trucks for many different companies. LeRoy was a jack of all trades and found joy in the projects and relationships he was able to be a part of. One thing people knew LeRoy for was that he never met a stranger. LeRoy could and would talk to anyone he met.

On July 27, 2017, LeRoy made his new home at the Iowa Veterans Home due to the effects of Alzheimer’s, and he was loved dearly by all his caretakers.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln LeRoy Henry and Anna Elizabeth (Hauf) Henry; his first spouse, Sandra Lou (Grosse) Henry; and a stepson, Bevan Headley.

LeRoy will forever be remembered by his spouse, Linda Bonita (White) Henry of Council Bluffs; three daughters and their spouses, David and Kimberly Peterson of Fort Collins, Colo., Michael and Terra Moore of Fort Collins and Douglas and Dawnn Hageman of Gretna; and a stepson and spouse, Jamie and Danielle Arnold of Omaha. LeRoy has six grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren, along with other family members and lots of friends who will miss him dearly.

Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of LeRoy Henry to: Iowa Veterans Home, 1301 Summit St., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158. Make check payable to the Iowa Veterans Home; in the memo line put, “Memorial account in honor of LeRoy Henry.”
