Man sent to prison for selling drugs near MU
HUNTINGTON — A Columbus man was sentenced to serve more than three years in federal prison Tuesday for selling crack cocaine near Marshall University last year.
Shawn “Shorty” Bryson, 27, pleaded guilty in August to distributing crack cocaine within 100 feet of Marshall. He was sentenced Tuesday to serve three years and one month in a federal prison.
According to U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart, Bryson’s plea came after police said an individual told them on July 6, 2017, he had purchased crack cocaine from Bryson in the 1500 block of Rear Avenue in Huntington, near the university’s campus. Officers executed a search warrant and recovered approximately 33 grams of crack cocaine at that location.
Bryson admitted he had intended to sell that crack cocaine.
Stuart said his office works closely with local law enforcement and Marshall University officials to ensure the safety of the students.
