FBI investigating inmate death at federal prison hospital
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — The FBI is investigating the death of an inmate at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield.
The inmate, Christopher Wittman, died Sunday.
A news release from the facility on Wednesday said Wittman apparently died after ingesting an unknown substance believed to be drugs.
Staff at the medical center found Wittman unresponsive Sunday afternoon. Workers began life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived and transferred Wittman to a Springfield hospital.
Wittman was later pronounced dead.
The federal prison hospital currently houses 1,041 male offenders.
