Porter to Play Piano from Paris

ASHBURNHAM -- The Historical Piano Concerts series continues Sunday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m., at Ashburnham Community Church, 84 Main St.

Pianist Stephen Porter will play religion-inspired works by the great 19th-century virtuoso pianist/composer Franz Liszt on the Erard piano made in Paris in 1893, from the internationally recognized Frederick Collection of Historical Pianos.

Porter has performed solo recitals in London, Paris, New York, Sarajevo, Lake Como, Istanbul, Reo de Janeiro, Oslo, Norway and Gothenburg, Sweden, among other places.

He has appeared on the Historical Piano Concerts series a dozen times in past seasons, playing a variety of pianos from the collection, each with music of its own time and place.

The concert’s fall season concludes Sunday, Oct. 28, with a solo recital of works by Robert Schumann, performed by Chinese pianist Yuan Sheng. There is no concert Sunday, Oct. 21.

Admission to each concert is $15, children and students free. The audience is invited to a reception following the concert.
