Nearly 150 arrested in fugitive crackdown in Lawrence area
BOSTON (AP) — Federal authorities say nearly 150 people have been arrested in connection with a five-month long investigation into violent crimes in and around Lawrence.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Boston announced Friday the people arrested in what was called Operation Triple Beam include dozens of fugitives and 52 alleged gang members.
Those arrested were wanted for a variety of offenses, including murder, drug trafficking, rape, child sexual assault, kidnapping, and armed home invasion.
The operation in Lawrence also led to the seizure of eight pistols; one semi-automatic rifle; one 12-gauge shotgun; and more than two kilograms of drugs, including cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and marijuana.
U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling says the sweep “will make Lawrence and neighboring towns safer.”
Federal, state and local police helped in the roundup.
