CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Massachusetts company is buying five apartment and townhome communities with more than 1,000 units in the Charleston area for $50 million.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/1UNhqsI ) that VVT Management purchased the properties in a portfolio sale from an undisclosed company in Ohio.

The sale includes three properties in Goose Creek, one in Hanahan and one in the West Ashley area of Charleston. VVT already owned a 460-unit apartment complex in North Charleston.

The company owns more than 6,000 units in the Northeast and the Midwest.
