GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Authorities in Mississippi say a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run and the driver involved has turned himself in.

Gulfport police tell news outlets the fatal incident happened on Sunday shortly after 2:30 a.m. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says 64-year-old Kenneth L. Jones suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene.

Police had released a photo of the maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer involved. Police Sgt. Clayton Fulks says 26-year-old Tyler Dwain Clemons turned himself in on Sunday around 11:45 a.m., saying he was involved in the incident.

Clemons is charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was being held at the county jail on a $100,000 bond.

News outlets did not report if Clemons had an attorney.
