Kankakee resident gets leadership role
KANKAKEE — The Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois has selected James Taylor Sr. of Kankakee as chairman of the chamber’s research and development committee.
Taylor is the publisher of the Kankakee City News and the South Suburban City News, which were founded on July 2, 1972. He is a former investigator for the state Department of Child and Family Services.
Taylor is the recipient of many community awards, including those from the Kankakee County NAACP for Business, the Kankakee Dr. Martin Luther King Foundation for Community Service and the Kankakee County Board.
The research and development committee is primarily responsible for developing and promoting research projects and papers for the purpose of identifying and removing traditional barriers to the growth and development of African-American-owned businesses in the state.
