Man Arrested in Ind. Mail Bombing
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A man confessed Tuesday to manufacturing and mailing a bomb to another man who was having an affair with his wife, authorities said.
Police Detective Gary Gulledge said 35-year-old Richard Rogier confessed to using black powder and a camping flashlight to make a bomb, which he mailed to Frank Valderas.
Gulledge said Valderas, 42, had been dating Rogier’s wife.
``He stated that he wanted this guy to leave his wife alone, and he did it just to scare him,″ Gulledge said.
Valderas opened the package Friday night and triggered the bomb. The explosion left Valderas with first- and second-degree burns from his elbows to his fingertips.
Rogier faces state charges of bomb hurling, a Class B felony. Gulledge said federal charges are forthcoming.
