Lakeside Lutheran second at Brookfield East volleyball invite
BROOKFIELD — Lakeside Lutheran’s volleyball team finished second at the Brookfield East Invitational on Saturday.
The Warriors finished 2-0 in pool play with wins over Martin Luther (25-11, 25-9) and Oak Creek (25-16, 22-25, 15-11). In the gold bracket, Lakeside defeated tournament host Brookfield East 25-20, 25-19 to reach the finals, where the Warriors lost to Mukwonago 14-25, 24-26.
Ella Collins and Kaitlyn Shadoski led Lakeside with 20 kills each. Grace Westrate put up 43 assists while Kaylee Raymond added 27.
Kylee Gnabasik led the team in digs with 42 and served five aces. Kaylee Raymond added four aces. Payton Kuepers had 8.5 blocks while Ella DeNoyer added six.
“I was really proud of our team today,” Lakeside Lutheran volleyball coach Jennifer Krauklis said.
“We started strong and continued that play for the majority of the day. We were playing defense better and coming together as a team. Unfortunately, we let that energy slip in the first set of the championship match.
“Coming off of a longer break, it took us awhile to get things going, and against a very solid team, we just can’t have that lull in energy and effort. Today showed me how we are still improving, which is great to see as we approach the last week of regular season play.”
Lakeside Lutheran (25-10 overall) takes an 8-0 record in the Capitol North into a conference match at Columbus on Tuesday.
