RI health aide accused of stealing from patients
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A former health aide has been accused of stealing from two developmentally disabled patients in a state-run group home in Rhode Island.
Authorities allege that 49-year-old Caren Thompson of Blackstone, Mass., took $393 from accounts belonging to two male residents and used the money to purchase clothing. The alleged theft occurred last fall at a group home operated by the state’s Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Development Disabilities and Hospitals.
State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says Thompson was arraigned on Friday. She faces a felony charge of wrongful conversion of money by a government employee.
Thompson is due back in court in October.
A phone number for Thompson could not be located.
