City Christian pulls away from South Umpqua in Spelgatti Invitational

SUTHERLIN — Ytbarek Solomon and Isaac Johnson each scored 20 points, helping City Christian defeat the South Umpqua boys 83-49 on Thursday afternoon in the Bill Spelgatti Invitational at Sutherlin High School.

The Class 2A Lions of Portland broke the game open by outscoring the 3A Lancers 26-8 in the third quarter.

Azpyn Roberts led South Umpqua with 15 points and eight rebounds. Matt Lee added 10 points.

“We did some good stuff in the first half, but had some mental breakdowns in the third quarter,” said S.U. coach Brett Nixon. “We got hurt by their offensive rebounding.”

The Lancers will play Lakeview at 2 p.m. Friday on the second day of the tournament.
