Marin ready to be Sevilla’s new ‘leader’

July 4, 2013

SEVILLE, Spain (AP) — Germany midfielder Marko Marin says he is ready to become Sevilla’s new “leader” after joining the Spanish club on loan from Chelsea for the upcoming season.

Speaking at his presentation, Marin says “I hope I can help return Sevilla to its place of a few seasons ago. I hope to assume the role of leader.”

The 24-year-old Marin will fill the void left by Spain winger Jesus Navas after he transferred to Manchester City.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido says the club is also set to sign Argentine defender Nico Pareja.

Sevilla won the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007 and competed in the Champions League, but has been in a decline since then and finished ninth in the Spanish league last season.
