TRENTON — Democratic U.S. Sen. ATLANTIC CITY — The Miss America Organization is dropping the swimsuit competition from its nationally televised broadcast, saying it will no longer judge contestants on their appearance. The competition began nearly 100 years ago in Atlantic City, New Jersey as a bathing beauty contest designed to keep tourists coming to the seaside resort in the weekend after Labor Day. DOVER, Del. — Full-scale sports betting is coming to Delaware, barely three weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for states to implement wagering schemes. Gov. John Carney planned to join other state officials Tuesday afternoon at Dover Downs for the launch of sports betting at Delaware’s three casinos, which will offer single-game and championship wagering on professional baseball, football, hockey, basketball, soccer, golf and auto racing. — MALL BRAWL — Police in New Jersey say they will increase their weekend presence at the mall where a large brawl resulted in the arrest of seven teenagers.

— SPINNING RIDE MALFUNCTIONS — A spinning gondola ride at a New Jersey amusement park abruptly stopped spinning over the weekend, leaving 32 passengers trapped up in the air.



WEST ORANGE — Rosie Tovi thinks she has a better idea. The figure skating coach believes — and she has many supporters throughout the ice world — an emphasis on “happy and healthy” should take precedence over turning the sport into gymnastics in a rink.
