Commission awards 5 grants to programs bolstering fathers

July 23, 2019

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio has awarded grants to five groups that promote fathers.

The Ohio Commission on Fatherhood says the two-year grants of $260,000 each are aimed at advancing the organizations’ efforts to help fathers become better parents, partners and providers.

Executive Director Kim Dent says research shows children with fathers present in their lives do better academically, economically and personally.

The money will help address barriers that might keep fathers from engaging at schools or other settings, develop fatherhood classes and help dads prepare for, find and keep jobs.

Grant recipients are Action for Children of Delaware, Franklin and Licking counties; Early Childhood Resource Center of Stark and Summit counties; ForeverDads of Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties; Passages of Lorain and Portage counties; and Talbert House of Butler, Hamilton and Warren counties.
