Huntington LL 9-11 all-stars lose opener 7-6

LOGAN — Huntington’s allstars lost their opening game in the West Virginia Little League 9-11-year-old state tournament on Saturday, dropping a 7-6 game against Jefferson.

Huntington, runner-up from District 1, received a first-round bye into Saturday’s upper bracket quarterfinal with District 6 runner-up Jefferson.

With the loss, Huntington moves into the consolation bracket and will play against Fairmont at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Barboursville advanced on the second day of the tournament and has now outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 32-0 with a 10-0 win over St. Albans on Friday night and 22-0 Saturday over Beckley.

With Martinsburg’s 11-6 victory over Central Greenbrier, Martinsburg and Barboursville will now meet Monday at 7 p.m. in one of two upper bracket semifinals.

The state tournament is double-elimination format with the winner advancing to the Little League Tournament of State Champions in Greenville, North Carolina, July 28.
