Three People Deliver Suspect to Police at Gunpoint
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Police have yet to decide whether to prosecute three people who forced a naked suspect at gunpoint into a car trunk for a 200-mile drive to Wichita.
But they did charge the suspect, 24-year-old Darrel Hartley, on Monday with molesting his former girlfriend’s teen-age daughter.
Police say Hartley was delivered to them by the ex-girlfriend and two of her friends.
Hartley was charged in Sedgwick County District Court with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and is being held in Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
Police Lt. Mike McKenna said Hartley was arrested early Sunday after the man’s former girlfriend, 45, and two male companions drove to Sublette on Saturday night and confronted Hartley.
McKenna said the woman told police that she and Hartley had been living together in Wichita when, in January, he had sexual intercourse with her 13- year-old daughter.
″They took him into custody at gunpoint, ordered him to undress, tied him up, put him in the trunk of the car and drove back to Wichita,″ McKenna said.
He said the drive takes ″a ood four hours.″
When the trio got to Wichita at 1 a.m. Sunday, McKenna said, they took Hartley to the woman’s house, gave him back his clothes and called police.
Police interviewed Hartley, then took him downtown and booked him.
McKenna said the woman and her friends were questioned and released, and the gun was turned in as evidence.
″They’re not being charged at this time,″ he said. ″We’ll discuss that with the district attorney.″
