High school football: Winona-area teams in the rankings
The Winona football team held onto its spot at No. 2 in the Associated Press Class AAAA rankings released Wednesday.
The Winhawks (5-0) defeated Rochester Century 44-28 last Friday behind 27 second-half points.
Defending state champion Holy Angels remains in the top spot of the AAAA rankings where it has been all season.
St. Charles (5-0) jumped up to No. 6 in Class AA after being ranked No. 9 last week. The Saints are coming off a 26-12 victory over Lewiston-Altura. Caledonia remains atop the rankings.
Rushford-Peterson (5-0) moved up one spot to No. 5 in Class A after it defeated Cotter on Friday. There was a shakeup at the top of the rankings as previously No. 1 BOLD dropped to No. 3 and previously No. 3 Minneota jumped to No. 1 after both teams won.
Blooming Prairie jumped from No. 5 to No. 4 after a victory over then-No. 4 Goodhue. R-P gets its shot at Goodhue on Friday and plays Blooming Prairie to close the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Houston (5-0) held at No. 5 in 9-man after defeating Randolph 54-46. The Hurricanes play defending state champs No. 1 Spring Grove this Friday. The Lions were the only team to defeat the Canes in the regular season last year.
