Fires extinguished at old Waltersville School in Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT — City firefighters quickly put out two small fires in the old Waltersville School on Friday, officials said.
Around 5:30 p.m., fire units responded to an abandoned school on Steuben Street, the old Waltersville School, said Deputy Chief Lance Edwards.
“First unit reported light smoke from the second floor,” Edwards said. “Units gained entry and found two small fires which were quickly extinguished.”
Searches of the building were negative. There were no injuries reported, Edwards said. Units cleared from the scene 45 minutes after arriving.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal.
