MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ Kendra Wecker had 26 points and 14 rebounds, and Laurie Koehn scored 23 as No. 4 Kansas State beat No. 14 Penn State 88-66 to win the preseason WNIT on Sunday.
Kansas State (4-0), which beat opponents by an average of 16 points during the weeklong tournament, pulled away from the Lady Lions (4-1) with an 8-0 run with 4:34 remaining to win its first WNIT title.
Koehn started the second half with five straight points to build the lead to 13 points. The Lady Lions trimmed it to nine before Kendra Wecker, the tournament MVP, answered with two straight buckets and Penn State never got closer.

Kelly Mazzante, who came in averaging 29.8 points a game, had 18. Tanisha Wright led the Lady Lions with 26 points and Ashli Schwab had 13.
The Wildcats held Mazzante, the nation’s leading scorer last season, to five first-half points, but Wright made up for it with 19 in the first 20 minutes.
Lady Lions coach Rene Portland is still one win shy of becoming the seventh coach in women’s college basketball to win 600 games. Portland is 599-207 in 27 years of coaching.
