Jacksonville State 93, Baptist Christian 72
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) _ Edward Coleman had 19 points and five rebounds Friday as Jacksonville State beat Baptist Christian 93-72 in the first round of the Tom Roberson Classic.
Jacksonville State led the entire game, building a 40-20 lead with 2:14 left on Kenny Sorenson’s jump shot. Two treys by Baptist Christian’s Chris Terry closed out the half to make the score 44-29.
Baptist Christian cut the lead to 10 early in the second half, but Jacksonville State pushed the lead to 21 with 11:07 left on Jay Knowlton’s jumper. After that, Baptist Christian could get no closer than 19 points.
``Our press really kept us in the game,″ said Jacksonville State coach Bill Jones.
Aaron Kelley added 15 points and five rebounds, Knowlton had 13 points and six rebounds and Kenny Sorenson scored 12 with six boards.
Ludwing Irazabal paced Baptist Christian with 21 points and 11 rebound. Terry added 15 points and Jose Rodriguez had 10.
Jacksonville State plays Freed-Hardeman in the championship Saturday.
