Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow
Here’s a seasonal sight for your eyes: the Christmas tree at the Library Plaza in downtown Sterling, complete with candy canes, decorations and flocked with snow. The tree will be lighted for the holiday season Friday during the Seasonal Sights and Sounds of Sterling Downtown Christmas Walk, which runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature children’s activities at Santa’s Workshop in the First Avenue parking lot behind Grummert’s Hardware, a visit from Santa at 6 p.m. for the tree lighting, an ice-sculpting demonstration, entertainment and music. Got some Christmas shopping to do? Downtown businesses will stay open late, and the Makers Market will sell arts and crafts at the Big Red Church, 311 Second Ave. Go to sterlingmainstreet.org or call the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, 815-625-2400, or Sterling Main Street, 815-626-8610 for a complete schedule and more information.
