BASIN ELECTRIC-BUYOUTS

BISMARCK, N.D. — More than 300 Basin Electric Power Cooperative employees, including some in Wyoming, are taking buyouts as the North Dakota-based utility tries to cut costs amid a plummeting financial outlook. Spokesman Curt Pearson told The Bismarck Tribune that Basin’s latest financial forecast predicts a decade of losses at subsidiary Dakota Gasification Co., which operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah. Pearson declined to disclose the total predicted losses. SENT: 240 words.

— ANIMAL CRUELTY-LAWSUIT — A Wyoming outfitter who was found not guilty of animal cruelty earlier this year has filed a civil complaint against his accusers in that case. The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports the complaint by Forest Stearns in Teton County District Court seeks damages for defamation, interference with a business contract and civil conspiracy.

— CASPER KILLING-ID — Natrona County officials have released the name of a man who was shot to death in north Casper last week. Coroner Connie Jacobson says 29-year-old Wesley Willow Jr., of Casper died in the shooting at about 4 a.m. Friday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Tom Heckert, a former personnel executive for the Denver Broncos who also served stints as general manager for the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles, has died following a long illness, the Broncos said. He was 51. Heckert stepped away from the Broncos after last season after being diagnosed in recent years with amyloidosis, a rare disease that causes a buildup of amyloid proteins in the heart, kidney, liver and other organs.
