Southern Miss. 57, No. 21 Auburn 53

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) _ Fresham Angela Atterberry’s free throw with 5.5 seconds left sealed Southern Mississippi’s 57-53 upset victory over No. 21 Auburn on Wednesday night.

Atterberry had 12 points for Southern Miss (11-5), which won its fifth straight game.

LaShonda Smith’s 3-pointer with 4:27 left put Southern Miss up 53-44. But Auburn (12-5) responded with eight straight points, pulling within 53-51 on Tiffany Krantz’s long-range 3-pointer with 1:56 left.

The Lady Tigers had two late chances to tie the game, but two layups fell off the rim before Alyson Hardy gained control of the ball for Southern Miss.

Latricia Morris led Auburn with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Krantz and Tara Williams both had 10 points. Tonia Trail also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Nedra Hosey added 10 points for Southern Miss.
