Harlan Huls, 90, of Beatrice, died Sunday morning, July 29, 2018, at Beatrice Health and Rehab. He was born on October 5, 1927, in rural Pickrell and attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He moved to Beatrice in 1942 and was a mechanic for Roehr’s Machinery in Beatrice from 1949 to 1999. He married Erna Meyer on November 28, 1954 in Byron. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice where he had been an usher, served on the church council, and was a sound technician for the radio broadcast. He enjoyed fishing and wine making.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Huls of Lincoln and Lisa (Kenny) Rogge of Big Rock, Tennessee; one brother, Alvin Huls of Beatrice; five sisters-in-law, Viola Huls, Lexey Huls, Idonna Meyer, Luetta Beckman, and Lily Wyatt; brother-in-law, Marvin (Marilyn) Meyer; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Heye and Gertrude Betten Huls, his wife, Erna, who died on August 15, 2010, three brothers, Leonard, Clarence, and Laverne Huls, two sisters-in-law, Gladys Hagemeier and Beatrice “Bea” Huls, and four brothers-in-law, Leo Meyer, Paul Beckman, Elmer Meyer, and George Wyatt.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the church. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Community Food Pantry and the Filley Stone Barn with Ervin and Lois Meints in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8 a.m.until 9 p.m. and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Thursday. www.foxfuneralhome.net.
