Nippon Herald Films President Furukawa Dies
TOKYO (AP) _ Katsumi Furukawa, president of the Nippon Herald Films Inc. and executive producer of the movie ″Ran,″ died Saturday of respiratory failure at a hospital in Nagoya, central Japan, family members said. He was 71.
Furukawa, who established the film company in 1957 to import foreign movies, had been chairman of the Foreign Film Importer-Distributors Association of Japan since 1981.
″Ran,″ the widely acclaimed film by director Akira Kurosawa, was named best picture of 1985 by the United States National Society of Film Critics.
Furukawa is survived by two sons and a daughter.
