Fairland softball falls to Ironton 17-1
IRONTON 17, FAIRLAND 1: The Dragons scored the first run and the Fighting Tigers the next 17 in a Division III sectional tournament game in Ironton.
Mary Beth Burton threw a three-hitter and struck out nine. She also went 2-for-2. Peighton Rowe was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Taiya Hamlet was 2-for-2 with two RBI, Demi Sands was 2-for-2, Haylee Stevens 3-for-4 with two RBI and Riley Schreck 2-for-3. Ironton (23-1) entertains Coal Grove at 5 p.m. Friday.
COAL GROVE 6, NEW LEXINGTON 0: Kaleigh Murphy struck out 11 in a three-hit shutout of the visiting Panthers in a Division III sectional game. Rylee Harmon hit a three-run homer. Murphy went 2-for-4 and Harmon 2-for-3. Coal Grove continues tournament play at 5 p.m. Friday at Ironton.
MEIGS 12, SOUTH POINT 4: Taylor Swartz went 5-for-5 to lead the Marauders (13-10) by the Pointers in a Division III sectional game in Rocksprings, Ohio. Jerrica Smith went 3-for-3 and Alyssa Smith and Cierra Okder each were 3-for-5. Holly Ramey and Megan Elley each went 2-for-4 with two RBI for South Point.
GALLIA ACADEMY 6, EASTERN-MEIGS 5: Preslee Reed drove in two as the Blue Angels (11-12) defeated the Eagles (12-7) in Centenary, Ohio. Hunter Copley earned the win. Aubrey Unroe went 2-for-2 and Alex Barnes 2-for-3.
EASTERN-PIKE 5, SOUTH GALLIA 2: The Eagles eliminated the Rebels from postseason play with a victory in a Division IV sectional in Beaver, Ohio. Eastern plays a second-round game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Symmes Valley.
ROCK HILL 14, SYMMES VALLEY 1: The Redmen scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Vikings in Pedro, Ohio. Kaleb Kidd went 2-for-2 and Landon Smith 2-for-3. Isaiah McFann was the winning pitcher.
FAIRVIEW 4, SOUTH POINT 3: Ty Hutchison’s sacrifice fly scored George Jervis with the winning run in the eighth inning as the Eagles (14-11) beat the Pointers (10-10) in Westwood, Kentucky. Dylan Wamsley and Jack Roy each went 3-for-4 for Fairview.
POINT PLEASANT 8, POCA 3: Hunter Blain drove in three runs with two hits to lead the home-standing Big Blacks (20-7) to a triumph over the Dots (13-10) in a Class AA, Region IV, Section 1 game.
