Check for damaged roof vents before winter season

October 6, 2018

NORFOLK - Summer storms can bring heavy rain, strong wind, and hail. Black Hills Energy wants to remind you to check for any damaged roof vents from this past storm season.

Community Affairs Manager Brandy Johnson says damaged vents can create a safety hazard due to the lack of proper ventilation for furnace equipment.

Johnson says homeowners should have roof vents inspected by a certified specialist.

She says also make sure your home is equipped with carbon monoxide detectors.

“Make sure the batteries are fresh and that it’s also not expired. Carbon monoxide detectors do have an expiration date, so important to make sure you have those on every floor of your home, outside of your bedrooms, and that they’re in good working order” Johnson said.
