Safety Step-Up hosting allergy awareness event

STAMFORD — Safety Step-Up, a year-long safety initiative presented by Stamford EMS and Safety 4Kids, will hold a free event to raise awareness about allergies.

Allergy Awareness will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the LOFT at Chelsea Piers. The event will teach the difference between a food intolerance and a life-threatening allergy, allergy triggers, common signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and what to do while waiting for medical assistance for a reaction.

Richard Grundy, director of camps at Chelsea Piers, will give the introduction. Featured speakers include Stamford EMS lieutenant and academy training coordinator Jessica Anderson and Stamford Health Dr. Dominic J. Roca, whose areas of expertise include allergy/immunology, critical care, pulmonary and sleep medicine.
