Goslings beat Edgewood golf, finish 6-1 in Badger South

September 19, 2018

Watertown closed out the Badger South slate with a 5-2 win over Madison Edgewood on Monday at Quann Park.

Alayna Clark and Mya Werning won in straight sets at No. 2 and 3 singles, while the doubles teams of Jenna Koepp and Katie Schleicher, Sydney Linskens and Abby Marr, and Hannah Baneck and Grace Bowman all won in straight sets for Watertown (11-4, 6-1 in conference). Linskens and Marr won a second set tiebreaker to close out the match.

“I’m incredibly proud of the entire team and the effort they gave tonight,” Watertown girls tennis coach Andy Dobbins said.

“Edgewood is at or near the top of the conference every year, so it means a lot to our program to pick up this win. We started fast in most of the matches, which was so important in a match like this. The girls came to play and were ready for the challenge.

“To finish the dual season at 6-1 is a great accomplishment, and it says a lot about how far this group has come. But now we have to shift gears and focus on the conference tournament. We have the opportunity to continue our success and play in an amazing environment for tennis. The girls are excited for this chance and we’ll be ready to go.”

Watertown heads to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Friday and Saturday for the conference tournament.
