Aiken Electric Cooperative offering 2 scholarships for GoSciTech summer camp

Aiken Electric Cooperative, or AEC, is providing scholarships for two students to attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics’ week-long, residential GoSciTech summer camp in Hartsville.

Each scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, meals, lodging and class materials and equipment.

Courses will include Pre-Med and Anatomy, Digital Forensic Science, Astrophysics, Marine Biology and Rise of the Drones.

To be eligible for the sponsorships, students must be rising 8th, 9th or 10th graders, maintain a B average and have an interest in science, technology, engineering or math.

In addition, their families must receive electric service from AEC.

Available camp dates are June 16-22, June 23-29 and July 14-20.

Each student applying for the scholarships must fill out an application and submit an essay.

Topics that should be addressed in the essay are the importance of science, math, computer science, technology and education; the student’s commitment to community; challenges the student has overcome; and why the scholarship is needed.

A report card also should be submitted.

The completed application, essay and report card should be mailed to: Aiken Electric Cooperative, Attn: Keyatta Priester, P.O. Box 417, Aiken S.C. 29802.

The application must be postmarked by the May 7 deadline.
