Air Force 22, San Diego St. 10
SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Fullback Pat Evans rushed for 116 yards and one touchdown Saturday night as Air Forced moved into the first place in the Western Athletic Conference with a come-from behind 22-10 victory over San Diego State.
With Air Force trailing 10-7, Chris Blasy kicked a 21-yard field goal midway through the second period to tie the game. Quarterback Jim Tomallo put the Falcons ahead to stay with a 6-yard touchdown run with 35 seconds left in the half.
Evans, who carried 24 times, scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and paced an Air Force offense that rolled up 314 yards rushing.
The Falcons blanked the Aztecs in the second half with the help of an interception by Trent Pickering and fumble recovery by noseguard John Steed.
Air Force, which had taken a 20-10 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Blasy, also notched a fourth-quarter safety when Steed tackled San Diego State quarterback Todd Santos in the end zone.
With the victory, the Falcons moved to 5-1 in conference, 6-2 overall, and past San Diego State, which fell to 3-1 in the WAC, 4-3 overall.
San Diego State turned fumble recoveries into a 10-7 lead in the first half. After Air Force turnovers, Kevin Rayhill kicked a 27-yard field goal and Santos threw an 8-yard scoring strike to Kenny Moore in the second period to push the Aztecs ahead 10-7.
